11/19/2023 0 Comments Am43 blind driveNew issue… Mosquito broker on HA was not working. Update 1: Found the libraries and patched them. Been using the Mosquito Broker add-on with a user/password set.Įdit: It seems like the bluetooth is working, since every now and then the scan finds a Garmin smart watch one of my neighbors probably owns, just can’t find the blind driver sitting right next to it Lastly, not sure if this matters, but end goal of integrating this to HA. Have the serial monitor up but in terms of connections running the command mosquitto_sub -h -u -P -v -t am43/# Any thoughts? Additionally, I’m not sure what amount of debugging I can do. Can connect to it with no issues from my phone and can get the mac address using a BLE sniffer of my laptop, but the ESP does not seem able to find or connect to it. Only issue is that the BLE scan can not find the AM43 device. Somehow after those 2 changes, I managed to get everything working… WIFI connection and MQTT connections take a few minutes to get connect (lot of unsuccessful messages) but after a bit it’s connected and up and running. I can get around this by selecting a different board (ESP32 Dev Module) but wondering if that will cause any issues. When this is selected I don’t have the option to change the partition scheme. Secondly, I’ve been using the HiLetgo ESP-WROOM-32 (the first result from Amazon) board which recommends using Node32s as the board selection. This is my first time working with any arduino so little inexperienced there. The first question I have (that might be a little silly) is how you go about patching the BLE library. My only complaint with the AM43 is that the solar panel is much too small to recharge the battery so the motor has to be supplied power.Īnother downside is that because the AM43 uses bluetooth the range is rather limited (~30 ft), I have to have a bluetooth dongle located in close proximity to my windows.Hey buxtronix, trying to get this set up and seem to be continuously running into a series of issues. ![]() I might just be unlucky though since I haven’t seen other people reporting the same issues I’ve been having. This isn’t related to the bluetooth binding itself but the hardware that I’m using. The bluetooth binding on the other hand…not so much, I end up restarting by bluetooth controller every couple of days since it goes offline for unknown reasons. ![]() The AM43 motors, along with the binding I made, have been extremely reliable. So for the sake of some cheap blinds I have ended taking over the bluetooth binding project in order to make it as robust as every other binding I’m using. Now while I successfully managed to reverse engineer the protocol and make a binding for them, I wasn’t aware at the time how poor of a state the official bluetooth binding was. My plan was to reverse engineer their bluetooth protocol since the official app to control them is utter trash. When I saw how cheap they can be bought ($35 from aliexpress) as well as the fact they don’t require the cloud (they operate through bluetooth) I actually went out on a limb and got a couple. They work with existing continuous cord loop blinds so you don’t need to buy new blinds. I am currently using a few AM43 Blind Drive motors to control my shades right now. During my last visit to the nearby store (North of Chicago), they only had a limited selection of widths, only available in dark gray, plus I’m not too fond of roller shutters. I’ve tried those from Ikea and was not too impressed, especially with the limited options available here in the US. Usage with native App e.g., can you operate/open/close all at once or only one at a time?.What’s your experience/impression with what you have now?. ![]() Hence, I need to make sure I have the right solution before proceeding. The add-on sets from MySmartBlinds run for about $160, and if I retrofit my 18 blinds (single/double) that’s a serious investment (~$3,000). The technology seems promising (per their web site and few Youtube reviews) and I’m interested in what other options are out there. I’ve been contemplating automating my blinds and the few ‘feasible’ options out there include those from ‘MySmartBlinds’. Greetings, and I hope everyone is managing as much as possible this ‘confined at home’ situation.

11/19/2023 0 Comments 2017 canfield nimble 9 review![]() The frame was very well prepared and required minimal facing/chasing of the bottom bracket. I built the Nimble 9 with most of the parts from the Jabber and the build went very well. The Jabberwocky came close, but was just a tad sluggish feeling. Buying a bike/frame and riding it for a year or two, them moving on trying to find that one bike. I've been riding singlespeed for the past 4 years (the last 2 fully rigid) and have kinda been in a bike ADD mode. All this while getting used to the bike and taking it pretty easy since I was solo too! Home run Canfield!!! On that first ride I made two techy climb sections that I have never cleared before, and beat several downhill segment times. It's compliant but super snappy, climbs fantastic standing or sitting, (love that seat tube angle!) and descends amazingly well. Sweeping along dodging or popping over the babyheads and other hack it just felt smooth and superbly confidence inspiring. I think I yelled out something like "It's like a laser!" at one point. On the first ride on a trail I know well it had me LOL'ing as I rode. Quick but sooo stable, turns on a dime with just a little weight shift, but feels like it's on a rail at the same time! I currently have the dropouts fwd at 415 and it just so fun. Oh man, what a great ride! Some magic involved here I think. I ordered the frame and a DVO fork, then all the other goodies to build up the bike 27.5 plus. However, something clicked watching Hardtail Party's review of the 2020 Nimble 9. It's been a variety of FS bikes for years now. I had a couple of hardtails along the way and frankly didn't like them. I competed in Hair Scrambles, Enduro and trials mostly. I rode bikes as a kid before I discovered motorcycles. 11/19/2023 0 Comments Vr headset for xbox one series x![]() Passthrough mode was devised to detect virtual safeguards so you wouldn’t run into furniture with the headset on. Reuse the gray zip-up case you bought for the Quest 2 - the Quest 3 and controllers fit!.A new locking mechanism allows size extension, which is bliss for people with glasses. An elegant dial on the Quest 3’s underside means no more fingerprint smudgery while adjusting lenses. No more uncomfortable starter strap (or reason to immediately run to the store for an Elite Strap).Passthrough mode, useful for seeing a view of your reality through the headset, is now in color.Quest’s bulky controllers are replaced with a new pair that omits the tracking ring. ![]() How has Meta improved its VR experience with the Quest 3? A few key points: This is where one of the big improvements made to the Quest 3, its colorized passthrough mode, could be an advantage - or so Meta hopes. Sony’s PSVR 2, Valve’s Index, and most other VR platforms put a lot of weight on one or two games at launch, then struggle to regularly follow them up with titles that make people feel like their big purchases are justified. The lack of content isn’t exclusive to Meta. And for those who don’t yet own a Quest headset, you can’t beat the Quest 2’s $299.99 price point. Having clocked serious time with the best that Meta’s Quest Store has to offer, the week that I spent with the Quest 3 didn’t convince me that it’s a day one (or perhaps even a year one) purchase for most people who own a Quest 2. That’s reductive, since there are some worthwhile experiences available, but the point stands: Meta’s feed of new, interesting games is slow compared to the release rhythm set by traditional game consoles. You can only play shooters and sword fighting games so many times. But the list of must-play games available is small, relatively easy to plow through, and hasn’t grown much in the past few years. It’s not that there aren’t games to play the Quest 3 and Quest 2 share a unified game library, and titles will continue to launch on both headsets for the foreseeable future. The company fixed a lot of issues (detailed in a sidebar below), yet the device’s new iteration suffers the same existential problem: The games still aren’t there. The $499.99 Quest 3 is Meta’s best VR headset yet, with more than enough technical and ergonomic upgrades to make it worth considering for those who want a faster, thinner headset than the Quest 2. A search party landed on the island and left gifts before returning to Port Blair. : 288Ī second landing was made by Portman on 27 August 1883 after the eruption of Krakatoa was mistaken for gunfire and interpreted as the distress signal of a ship. The colonial officer in charge of the operation wrote that the entire group After several days, six Sentinelese, an elderly couple and four children, were taken to Port Blair. The group found a network of pathways and several small, abandoned villages. : 362–363 Portman's expeditions Īn expedition led by Maurice Vidal Portman, a government administrator who hoped to research the natives and their customs, landed on North Sentinel Island in January 1880. They were eventually found by a Royal Navy rescue party. ![]() The 106 surviving passengers and crewmen landed on the beach in the ship's boat and fended off attacks by the Sentinelese. Towards the end of the same year's summer monsoon season, Nineveh, an Indian merchant ship, was wrecked on a reef near the island. : 362–363 Homfray, an administrator, travelled to the island in March 1867. : 362–363 British visits īritish surveyor John Ritchie observed "a multitude of lights" from an East India Company hydrographic survey vessel, the Diligent, as it passed by the island in 1771. However, Onges brought to North Sentinel Island by the British during the 19th century could not understand the Sentinelese language, so a significant period of separation is likely. : 362–363 They also have strong cultural similarities with what little has been remotely observed amongst the Sentinelese. ![]() The Onge, one of the other indigenous peoples of the Andamans, were aware of North Sentinel Island's existence their traditional name for the island is Chia daaKwokweyeh. In 2006, islanders killed two fishermen whose boat had drifted ashore, and in 2018 an American Christian missionary, 26-year-old John Chau, was killed after he attempted to make contact with the islanders three separate times and paid local fishermen to transport him to the island. Such attacks have resulted in injury and death. The islanders have been observed shooting arrows at boats, as well as at low-flying helicopters. The Sentinelese have repeatedly attacked approaching vessels, whether the boats were intentionally visiting the island or simply ran aground on the surrounding coral reef. In November 2018, the government's home ministry stated that the relaxation of the prohibition on visitations was intended to allow researchers and anthropologists (with pre-approved clearance) to finally visit the Sentinel islands. In 2018, the Government of India excluded 29 islands – including North Sentinel – from the Restricted Area Permit (RAP) regime, in a major effort to boost tourism. ![]() In practice, Indian authorities recognise the islanders' desire to be left alone, restricting outsiders to remote monitoring (by boat and sometimes air) from a reasonably safe distance the Indian government will not prosecute the Sentinelese for killing people in the event that an outsider ventures ashore. Nominally, the island belongs to the South Andaman administrative district, part of the Indian union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The area is patrolled by the Indian Navy. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands Protection of Aboriginal Tribes Act of 1956 prohibits travel to the island, and any approach closer than 5 nautical miles (9.3 km), in order to protect the remaining tribal community from "mainland" infectious diseases against which they (likely) have no acquired immunity. ![]() The island is about 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) long and 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) wide, and its area is approximately 60 square kilometres (23 sq mi). It is home to the Sentinelese, an indigenous people in voluntary isolation who have defended, often by force, their protected isolation from the outside world. North Sentinel Island is one of the Andaman Islands, an Indian archipelago in the Bay of Bengal which also includes South Sentinel Island. 11/19/2023 0 Comments Origami paddleUsually, I like to paddle for at least a couple of hours before finishing my reviews. I don't want to give away too much, but as you might have guessed from the post's title, I couldn't help but come to that conclusion. After testing the Origami Paddler, I couldn't help but conclude that it belongs in the second category. Regarding paddling performance, the most crucial factor to consider, some of these models have received high praise in my previous reviews, while others have fallen short of expectations. The growing demand for these kayaks has led to a wide variety of options for buyers. These innovative kayaks are easy to pack and transport and relatively lightweight, making them convenient to set up at the beach. TL DR - iSUPs are easier to store, easier to transport, more stable, have a higher carrying capacity, are more resistant to damage and hurt less when inevitably they hit you in the head.Among the different types of kayaks available in the market, one particular kind is gaining significant popularity and interest due to its unique features. If you are exclusively going to be doing Yoga look at Yoga iSUPs too they are a little more stable but at the expense of being less pleasant to paddle and handle. Bear in mind that whatever board you get putting a second person on will always impede its performance. At 5’5” anything from 10’-10’6” and 30-32” wide will be fine for you and the occasional passenger wider and longer will feel very sluggish for someone your size. Look at all-rounders from one of the big manufacturers (Jobe, Red, Tower, JP Aus., etc.), the shape is a great balance of stability and mobility. iSUPs almost always have higher volume because of the construction method used. Carrying capacity and secondary stability are functions of volume, more=more in this case. Primary stability is a function of width and shape, essentially wider and chunkier is more stable but more sluggish for similar designs there’s very little difference between rigid and inflatables in this regard. You mention in comments your primary concerns are stability and carrying capacity. Unless you need the extra 3% performance of a rigid for surfing big waves (shaped rails) or racing (increased rigidity and wave piercing prow) get an inflatable, get out there and enjoy yourself. Let me know if you have any more questions! I saw that you wanted to do yoga on your board, so you may want to find a larger size that is a bit more sturdy- mine would be quite a big wobbly if I tried to have a real practice. ![]() Again, for me, I just want a way to be able to casually hang out on the lake near my city and get a decent workout. So I upgraded the pump and am considering getting a better paddle, but I don't regret my purchase at all. It usually takes 15 minutes but again I'd spend that time getting ready anyway. So I'll pull up to wherever I'm parking, unfold the board, plug in the pump to my car's aux outlet, and let it fill up while I put on sunblock and get my stuff ready. ![]() The hand pump had me absolutely winded before I even entered the water and took such a long time. If you do get an inflatable, you absolutely must buy the automatic pump. I'm an average height female and I'm pretty strong but know I'd struggle transporting a full size hard board myself. ![]() Mine folds up into a large duffel bag and I can just throw it in the back of my car, so I don't have to worry about transporting it or moving it far distances. However, I can't see myself ever going for a hard board because the inflatable is SO EASY to manage. It it a little slower, especially in slightly choppier waters or going against the wind? For sure. Gonna be honest here: I got a cheap (~$300) Amazon inflatable SUP because I just wasn't ready to devote real money to it yet. In short, always check the law before you carry.ĭuty To Inform CONSTITUTIONAL CARRY COMPLICATIONSĪlthough the law might be clear for people who have a license or permit to carry a handgun, what about states that allow people to carry handguns without a license or permit to carry?Ĭonstitutional carry, also known as “permitless carry,” is a state law (or set of laws) that generally allows anyone who may legally own a gun to carry without a carry license or permit. Other states, like Texas, require license holders to declare that they have a firearm and a license to carry when asked by the police officer for “identification.” Some states may differentiate between concealed and openly carried handguns in their “duty to inform” laws and have two different requirements. Other states may not have a statewide mandate concerning a “duty to inform,” but will allow local municipalities to impose a rule. However, law varies widely state to state.įor instance, some states may require a person to volunteer that they are carrying a firearm and present identification and a license or permit to carry without being asked. ![]() ![]() Depending on your state’s laws, you might need to declare that you are carrying a firearm at the start of the detention, when the officer asks you for identification, or when the officer asks if you have a weapon. Any situation in which you are being asked to produce identification or are being held without the ability to simply walk away may obligate you to explain that you are carrying a firearm and to show your license or permit to carry. One law that often confuses firearm carriers concerns the “duty to inform.”Ī “duty to inform” law generally requires you to notify an officer that you are carrying a firearm and that you have a license or permit to do so when the officer temporarily detains you. There are a variety of state and federal laws you need to know. In this article, we’ll talk about “duty to inform” laws and how open or concealed firearm carriers need to be prepared to handle law enforcement interactions safely and correctly. A traffic stop is the wrong time to find out that you have a duty to inform the police of the presence of your openly carried or concealed weapon. If you have an encounter with law enforcement, do you have to tell them you’re carrying a firearm or that you have a valid license or permit to carry? If there is a legal requirement where you live, failing to do so might mean losing your license or permit, or being charged with a crime. 11/19/2023 0 Comments Vee fat trax
